Name of the committee : National service scheme (NSS)

National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched in Gandhiji's Birth Centenary Year 1969, in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. From its inception, more than 3.75 crores students from Universities, Colleges and Institutions of higher learning have benefited from the NSS activities, as student volunteers.

Motto of NSS: Not me but you

The motto of NSS is “NOT ME BUT YOU” which reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the needs for selfless service .

Aim of NSS

It aims at the involvement mainly of undergraduate students on a voluntary basis in various activities of social serviced and national development which while making a contribution to socio-economic progress would also provide opportunities to the students to understand and appreciate the problems of the communities, awaken social consciousness and inculcate in them sense of dignity of labour. There has been a great deal of enthusiasm among the students in various programmers taken up under the scheme. At the same time, there has been a demand from several quarters that opportunity should be provided to the youth going out of the universities and colleges to engage themselves on a whole time basis for a specific period in activities of social and national service.

College NSS

  • The College has two units of NSS  about 200 students are involved in the NSS activities under the guidance of two trained programme  officers.

  • The National Service Scheme   popularly known as NSS was launched in Mahatma Gandhiji’s centenary year 1969.

  • The main aim of NSS   is to develop student’s personality through community service and to inculcate the sense of nation building.

NSS Recent Activities

1. conducted on July 29th 2016 .Vanam Manam programme organized in the college in which massive plantation was done in     the campus.200 NSS volunteers participated in the programme

2. NSS volunteers participated in free health camp organized by HOPE hospitals, Kakinada at Durga Prasad School, jagannaickpur, Kakinada. Nearly     20 students participated on 31st July 2016

3. On 6th Aug 2016, Orientation was conducted for the junior volunteers about the aims, objectives and activities of NSS. Resource person was      Dr.Ramana Murthy, NSS PO,MSN Degree College, Kakinada

4. A meeting was organized for the volunteers on 31st Aug 2016 to formulate a Swach Bharat Action plan to maintain cleanliness in the campus and also      to educate the community on swach bharat

5. Rally organized in the community on swach bharat

6. on 30th August ,A guest lecture by Mr.Premchand ,member ALL is Well ,an NGO on swach Bharat and the role of students in educating the      community

7. on 17th September volunteers participated in Coastal cleanup at vakalapudi beach on the eve of International Coastal Cleanup day.100      volunteers participated

8. On 1st October on the occasion of Blood Donation day, a guest lecture was organized on importance of blood donation. Dr.Ramana Rao educated      volunteers about the composition of blood, various blood groups, who can and who cannot donate blood.120 volunteers participated

9. 4 volunteers participated in “Training in First Aid” conducted by Indian Red Cross Association, Kakinada from 22-9-2016 to 15-9-2016

10. Yoga Day was conducted on 21st June 2016 on the eve of International Yoga Day. Resource persons form AYUSH enlightened the volunteers about the         importance of yoga and taught the basic yogasanas

11. An awareness programme was conducted in the community on swach bharat by the POS and volunteers

12. NSS volunteers regularly participate in plantation programme conducted by an NGO “ALL is Well” which is an active NGO working to make Kakinada        Green

13. On 24-9-2016, Domalapai Dandayatra programme was organized in the college campus in which Honorable MLA of Kakinada, Sri Vanamadi        Venkateswara Rao and Municipal Commissioner ,Sri S.Aleem basha and the Principal of the college educated the volunteers about the maintenance of         healthy surroundings clean in order to avoid mosquito breeding and thus avoid mosquito borne diseases


Activities under NSS during the Year 2013-14:

1.NSS Volunteers participated in Youth festival and got I and II prizes in Skit and Elocution.

2.Campus cleaning programme with 50 volunteers to celebrate Independence day and Republic day.

3.Organised NSS Special camp at Chollangiagraharam from 05-01-14 to 11-01-14. Total 50 students were participated. Activities undertaken during the camp are:

4.Organised Self defenceprogramme with 80 girl volunteers of different colleges from 22-01-14 to 28-01-14 in the college campus

5.Organised Blood donation and grouping programme in the college campus on 23-01-14 ,nearly 400 students were participated and 25 students were     donated blood.

6.Distributed writing pads to the elementary school children at adopted village,ChollangiAgraharam on 26-01-14.

7. Organised mega camp as one of the member with 300 volunteers from all colleges in the district at Rangaraya medical college, Kakinada.From 07-02-14 to     13-02-14.
